Properties: protection, healing, psychism, power, lactation
Quartz has been used in ritual and magic for thousands of years, aside from its practical uses as well. Quartz was seen in ancient times as solid water or ice that did not melt. It was used to create rain in Southeast Asia and Australia. It could also be used to focus sunlight to create fires. To this day Native shamans and Elders use wands tipped with clear quartz. Even today they are worn in lunar rituals. They also can symbolize the god and goddess on an altar. It is symbolic of the spirit and intellect.
In some traditions the herbs sage or sweetgrass could be used in conjunction with a quartz. After brewing an infusion and soaking the quartz in it for 24 hours (DO NOT DRINK) the stone is held in the receptive hand for protection and purification. The stones would be boiled in water or placed in a clear glass in the sun and the water afterwards was said to have purification and healing effects. Quartz was also said to relive headaches and assist in lactation, as it is called a milk stone.
A very prominent use of this crystal is scrying and divination. It is one of the most popular materials to use in making pendants. And of the course the infamous crystal ball is supposed to be formed of quartz though it is often glass or even plastic these days. In Renaissance times they would be beryl. It can be used in readings to awaken the psychic mind. It is ideal for focus in many configurations five for elemental magic, thirteen or 21 for the outline of the Sacred Circle, a spiral formation for meditation on rebirth and transformation and a crystal garden formed of sand and crystals. A crystal garden can be as complex or simple as you like. It acts as a meditative focus and a ward of protection for your home (or business). It can also store energy, as can all quartz.
Obviously, there are many forms of quartz, but I am going to briefly cover a few here.
- Blue Quartz: peace and tranquility
- Green Quartz: prosperity and creativity
- Rose Quartz: love, peace, happiness, and fidelity
- Rutilated Quartz: energy stone to facilitate spellcasting
