How To Protect Yourself As A New Witch

It can be difficult to take that first step into the world of witchcraft and spell-casting without feeling like you are completely on your own, but you are not. You can create spells that help you protect yourself from negative energy, whether its the kind that comes from other people or simply from the hustle and bustle of modern life in general. If youre new to the world of magic, here are some basic protection spells to help get you started on your way to becoming a powerful witch!

1) Crystals for Protection
Crystals are one of the best protection tools you can use. They protect your mind, body, and home. Its easy to get them working for you. Just choose five stones that speak to you and place them in salt in glass bowls around your home. Then light candles next to each bowl and say these words: May these crystals form a protective shield against all that is evil. I ask for their help in protecting me, my family, and my property so that we may be at peace always.

Here are some of the top crystals to choose from:

Black tourmaline
Black tourmaline is a potent healing crystal and a protector. Its energy serves to ground you and encourage peaceful feelings. Black tourmaline is specifically used to block psychic attacks (any negative energy emanating from a person toward you) and assists to interrupt negative thought patterns. If you notice yourself feeling intense anxiety, black tourmaline will bring you back to your center and help you to improve your confidence. This crystal for protection blocks out all negative vibes and is a great one to add to your collection.

Obsidian
You may notice a lot of black crystals on this list, and that is intentional. Obsidian absorbs negative energy, similarly to how the color black absorbs all colors. Obsidianwhich is volcanic glass, or melted lavahelps take on whatever is pulling you down or any harmful vibrations being sent your way. Since its always absorbing negative energy around you, this gem needs to be cleansed frequently. It can further help to highlight the truth that you may be hiding from yourself, which is excellent, as long as youre willing to accept whats directly in front of you.

Amethyst
If you’re familiar with crystals and their uses, you may be confused as to why amethyst is on this list. This stone is known for aiding with body aches, digestion, third eye healing, and more. However, amethyst is also a great crystal for protection; it helps to encourage calm, serene energy and wards against overwhelming thoughts. Amethyst offers spiritual and emotional protection and guards your serenity.

Clear Quartz
Quartz is one of those crystals that are good for just about everything. Clear quartz is a magnifying gem. So if, for example, you use another crystal for protection, clear quartz will amplify its energy and manifest even more protection into your life. Used on its own, clear quartz cleanses energy, meaning that you can use it to release anything that is no longer serving you.

Pyrite
Pyrite, also known as Fools Gold is a beautiful crystal that guards your energy. If you have ever been to a crystal shop, you have presumably seen this beauty. Its golden hue is meant to manifest abundance, spark confidence, and most importantly, offer protection. Pyrite helps you to clear negative energy and manifest positive changes into your life.

Black jade
This crystal can help you tap into your intuition and steer free of negative people and situations. Sometimes it can be hard to see where negativity is coming from, but black jade can help you tune in to the root source.

Smithsonite
Smithsonite is a beautiful and soothing stone that can help calm your emotions and connect you to your heart center. It’s relaxing, beautiful, and soothing to look at.

Citrine
Citrine is recognized as the manifesting stone, it can bring abundance in all forms. Additionally, it has an amazing ability to morph into a protection stone too. It is an excellent crystal for protection as it absorbs negative energy and transmutes it into positivity and peace. These protection crystals are also helpful to use with protecting yourself from negative people that you possibly cannot avoid.

2) Protection Oil
Protection Oil is made by combining essential oils that have protective properties into a carrier oil, such as sweet almond or grape seed. Lemon, cinnamon, clove, rosemary and bay are among my favorites; there are many oils that work well for protection. To make Protection Oil: Add 15 drops of each oil into your carrier oil (that is at least equal parts of sweet almond and grape seed). Put 3-5 drops on your temples (at different times), on your wrists or rub it across your shoulders. Many witches use Florida water for this purpose as well.

3) Protection Powder
Protection powder is really easy to make. Just grind up herbs and mix with water until it’s thoroughly combined. You can use protection oil, too, or even get premade salt incense. But simple protection powder is easy and effective! Here is a great protection powder: 1/2 cup dried rosemary 1/2 cup dried hyssop 4 bay leaves 3 tablespoons dried sage 2 tablespoons dried lavender 2 tablespoons powdered black lava salt Take your ingredients and grind them into a fine powder in a blender or coffee grinder. Sift out any large pieces that didn’t get ground up well, then add your black lava salt at the end.

Some of the most common herbs for protection are:
Calendula
Basil
Spearmint
Dandelion
Honeysuckle
Nettle
Patchouli
Lemongrass
Violet
Sage
Fennel
Rosemary
Eucalyptus
Frankincense
Oregano
Clove
Lavender
Ylang Ylang

4) Protection Salts
Protection Salts are extremely easy to make. All you need is some water, sea salt, and an amethyst crystal. Charge your crystal with positive energy before you start your ritual by giving it a full-body hug, repeating three times I charge thee with good energy while visualizing white light surrounding your body. Write down words that you feel describe yourself on small pieces of paper, then tear them into pieces and throw them in a pot of boiling water. When your crystals are cool enough for touch, take them out of their container and put one next to each little piece of paper in order until all pieces are in close proximity with at least one crystal. Place them aside for four days in the sunlight so they can soak up all of their power.

5) The Evil Eye
An evil eye is an amulet or talisman, designed in the shape of an eye, traditionally in the colors blue or green, that indicate spiritual protection. These talismans or evil eye repellents come in different shapes and forms as pendants, bracelets, earrings, and rings. Although not solely worn for astrological purposes, many people also consider these amulets effective when worn during certain astrological configurations such as when Mercury is retrograde (the time frame during which Mercury appears to be moving backward in our skies), because they believe that evil spirits are more powerful at that time. Although it is widely believed in astrology and metaphysics circles that these sorts of amulets can help with removing negative energy from your life, there has been no actual scientific evidence yet linking its effectiveness against anything tangible like viruses or bacterial infections! However, people who wear them do claim they feel emotionally uplifted and protected. So whether you believe it works scientifically or spiritually, one thing remains true: these charms look cool!

6) Dream Pillows
In this modern world, humming with technology, getting a good night’s rest can be challenging. If you’re looking to protect from negative energy and have restful, guiding sleep, a dream pillow may help. There are even traditions in which herbs are used during sleep to bring about peaceful snoozing and create vivid, lucid dreaming landscapes sure to bring happiness, rather than grogginess, to your waking state. You can try filling a pillow with any combination of the following:
Catnip
Chamomile
Hops
Lavender
Lemon Balm
Rose Petals
Rosemary
Cloves
Lemon Verbena
Mugwort
Mint
Marjoram
Balsam

7) Herbs for Protection
Basil, Bay, Chamomile, Cypress, Dill, Fennel, Garlic, Honeysuckle, Hyssop, Iris Iris Root), Lavender, Lemon Balm (Melissa Officinalis), Lemon Grass (Cymbopogon Citratus), Marjoram (Origanum Marjorana), Myrrh resin-Cassia Bark-Cinnamon Stick-Sandalwood chips. Mugwort Mothwing flowers Narcissus bulbs Nutmeg Oats Olive Oil Onion Orris Root Pansy Parsley Peony Petals Peppercorn Rosemary Sandalwood Yarrow Yellow Dock Flowers Titian Tulip Turnip Violet Watercress Woad Woodruff These are a few of my favorite thiiiings.

8) Casting a Circle
Circles are a form of magical protection. Circles have been used for thousands of years to create sacred space, call upon higher powers, and protect from negative forces. The circle is an ancient symbol for infinity and can also be seen in non-magical terms as a metaphor for lifebeginning at birth, travelling through life’s highs and lows, and returning back to where you began after death. Any event that calls forth spiritual energy or is meant to be kept secret from those not participating in it should use a physical circle constructed of colored chalk on your floor or a pentagram drawn on your wall. The diagram below shows how it’s done. Take caution when creating your own circle: It must never be walked over, for doing so will disrupt its power.
